November in Carol’s Junior Infants
What a whirlwind November has been in Room 3. We have explored galaxies, black holes, and our solar system, watched meteor showers, launched rockets, collided with nebulae and imagined the size of a supernova. We met some new people too through the power of books – Grace Hopper, Queen of Computer Code and Margaret Hamilton whose computer code saved the day for Apollo 11. Chris Hadfield showed us how to make a sandwich in space from the International Space Station – a truly tricky business! The children created aliens from marla, made rockets using tangrams, had a go at writing code with geoboards, walked like astronauts to the music of Space Odyssey and relaxed under the night sky to the sounds of Colm Mac Con Iomaire’s ‘Conas Breith ar Réalt’ (how to catch a star). Our new sounds helped us to sound out some words in the space station and our work with the numbers 2 and 3 meant that we could launch rockets into orbit with a dramatic countdown. I think it’s safe to say that all of the children are excited to see what December in Room 3 will bring.
