The road to Croker

Good afternoon parents and guardians,

What a week we have just had!

It started with an amazing game in Croke Park on Monday. Today, we were delighted to receive a very special memento of our big day out.

A huge thank you to Luke, Conor and Andrew for putting together this wonderful video. Sit back, relax and enjoy!

The rest of the week was equally busy, with trips to Fort Lucan and Delphi, a class play, and a visit to the Ark.

We are now looking forward to Active Week, which begins on Monday. Padraig has organised tennis, dodgeball, archery, soccer, and visits to Dalymount and the Velodrome. There is something for everyone in the school.

As I mentioned recently, we will also have an Active Day on the pitch in TU Dublin on Thursday. The children will rotate through a series of activities throughout the day. It is not necessary for parents to attend. Afternoon collection will take place back at the school as normal.

Padraig has prepared an Active Week plan, which you can read below.

Please ensure that the children wear suitable footwear and activewear throughout the week.

Tá an PGSA ag eagrú maidin chaife as Gaeilge inár seomra foirne ar an Aoine seo chugainn. Fáilte roimh chách 💚

The PGSA has organised a coffee morning next Friday, where we will have an opportunity to speak Irish in a relaxed and welcoming setting. Everyone is welcome.

Cumann na Mbunscol Final

D7ETNS battle it out against NDNSP in Croke PK on Monday

What a day!, The upper half of the school flocked like lemmings along the Royal Canal to the hallowed ground to support the D7 hurlers. Arriving in good voice, D7 got a dream start and pulled ahead with a quick goal and a few points. NDSP found their own rhythm and began to claw their way back into the game leaving the bare minimum between the sides at the break.

The second half saw a change in momentum and the game swung the other way. After equalising, our opponents forged ahead to hold a three-point lead. Cometh the hour, cometh the men and D7 rose to the challenge firing over four unanswered points. We could see the finish line however the Glasnevin boys weren’t finished, and they grabbed a late equalising score.

As the seconds ticked away both sides looked for the winner, but it ended up all square. As the finals are run like clockwork there was no time for extra time, so the fairest result was a draw. D7 got to keep the Tom Ryder trophy for the first 6 months then we’ll send it up to our gallant opponents.

What a performance by the lads and they were cheered on every step of the way by the eager audience of school mates and families. The heroes git a guard of honour when they finally returned to the school. D7 abú.

Delphi

I am delighted to say that our trip was a great success. We are currently waiting for the bus to return.

Our 6th Class pupils have been incredibly mature, responsible and well behaved throughout the trip. We always trusted that they would be, and they certainly lived up to our expectations. It is for this reason that our staff are so willing to take them away for three days to Delphi. We are extremely proud of them and of the way they represented themselves, their families and the school.

Such was the success of this year’s trip that I am delighted to tell our 5th Class pupils that we have already booked Delphi for them next June!

A sincere thank you to Patrick, Mary, Niamh, Enda and Bridget for giving up their time to accompany the group and for taking such wonderful care of everyone throughout the trip. Their commitment, enthusiasm and support helped make the experience such a memorable one for all involved.

Jennifer’s 4th class trip to the Ark

On Thursday 11th of June we went on a trip to the Ark to do a workshop on mystical magical monsters with an author/ illustrator named Ashwin. We walked from our school to the Luas stop and got the Luas to Trinity and walked from there to the Ark in Temple Bar. First, we looked at a new exhibit called “My Father’s Dragon”, a movie that took 10 years to complete. It took from 2012 to 2022. After, in the workshop we made a magical mystical creature together, King Bob Dogbo-nut,  and then we even got to make our own creatures. Overall, it was very interesting and fun.
