5th class enjoy rowing on the Liffey on Tuesday.

Good afternoon parents and guardians,

I hope you have had a nice week.

Wet and all as it has been, we still managed to have a GAA game for our girls and boys, go rowing on the Liffey, go swimming the Aura de Paul pool, and visit the Ark today for some theatrical adventures.

Our Special Education Needs Department are sadly going to have to say goodbye next Tuesday to our experienced and trusted colleague, Carmel. Carmel has working in our school since 2009. She has guided and led the teaching of all our pupils with additional educational needs. Carmel is one of the first adults you meet in D7ETNS as she supervises the children on yard each morning. We will daily miss her expertise and her companionship in school. Best wishes Carmel for a long, happy well-deserved retirement.

Our thoughts are with our colleague, Amy, this week. Sadly, her brother David O Callaghan passed away. May he RIP.

Massive thank you to Stephen who brought the children from the Senior  ALC to St Anne’s Park. The children had a lovely morning.

Finally, some teachers have asked me to apologise as they cannot send their usual end of week email. Our school email is not working at the moment. We are working to find a solution to this.

Enda’s 6th Class completed their entries for the Someone Like Me Art Competition this week. The competition promotes disability awareness among primary school pupils. Through engaging in this competition, 6th Class developed a deeper understanding of the fact that even though we might have different abilities, we’re all pretty similar.

Thanks to Aoife for our personalised Thank you to our SNAs for SNA Appreciation Day. I know I am biased, but I think we have an amazing team of hard working SNAs in D7ETNS.

GAA

We had another very exciting game this week for our Senior girls GAA team against Pelletstown Educate Together National School. The teams were well matched and it made for a thrilling game from start to finish even under difficult conditions. D7ETNS were the dominant side all the way through the first half with the majority of the possession and some great display of skills from all the girls. Unfortunately, it was not to be our day as very late into the second half a high kick into the square resulted in a goal for Pelletstown securing the win for them. The girls have played out of their skins in all the matches over the last few weeks and showed excellent teamwork and sportsmanship throughout.

Basketball

Patrick Kelly, our 4th class teacher, hopes to enter our school in a primary school basketball league. He will be inviting boys and girls from 6th class to train on Wednesdays, commencing October 9th. Thanks, Patrick, for attending the induction seminar in Tallaght and for coordinating this.

Both 4th Classes visited The Ark today Friday for a performance of An Ant Called Amy. The children enjoyed the interaction between the actor and the audience and a few of them even played starring roles. The walk wasn’t too hard with only one downpour to contend with, not that the children were too perturbed. The show was part if the Dublin Theatre Festival and it was a great opportunity to get to ask questions after the performance.

HSE

Please note that any children new to the school, or who missed the last screening, will be receiving a consent form in their schoolbag which is from the HSE  relating to “School health screening Vision and Hearing” tests .  The form should go out in the next couple of days so you might check the schoolbag.

Please complete as required and return to the class teacher.  Your child can not take part in this Health screening without your consent.

Though we do not have an exact date yet for the screening, it will be soon, so we’d ask that you complete and return to the class teacher as soon as possible.
