Peadar’s 5th class Perspective artwork
Good afternoon parents and guardians,
I hope you have had a nice week. The weather has turned a bit cooler after last weekend but it hasn’t dampened the enthusiasm of the children.
The classes have been busy this week. Anna, Roisin and Rebecca’s 1st classes visiting the TUD Campus on an autumn nature walk. Patrick’s 4th class enjoyed their first swimminmg session in the Aura de Paul pool. Both of the GAA teams started their season with mixed results but more to follow. And finally Friday saw the unveiling of the Artwork in the Úlla Orchard.
Coffee Mornings
We would like to invite all parents / guardians from Ciara’s Junior Infants class to a coffee morning next Friday from 8.30 – 9.15am in the staff room on Floor 1.
Úlla Orchard
On Friday the unveiling of a ceramic artwork took place in the Úlla Orchard in Grangegorman. The mural is the creation of the pupils in 4th Class 23/24 and ceramic artist Julianne Gee Ho of JStudioNZ.
The striking artwork is fantastic and really complements the apple trees that have already been planted in the orchard by pupils of D7 ET. Frank Kenny and Jack Ho spoke on behalf of the class at the unveiling. To them, the mural represents the closeness and camaraderie of their class and they are all very proud of their work.
If anyone is walking down Grangegorman Lower please do stop by to admire the mural, located at TU Dublin Lower House (Green to the west – pedestrian access through TU Dublin Lower House car park).
The mural was created with the funding and support of the DCC Arts Office, Grangegorman Development Agency and TU Dublin with thanks to Clodagh Emoe.
2nd Class Family Trees
Marie’s 2nd Class were drawing their family trees this week and would like to share them with the school.
GAA Update
On Wednesday our girls put on a great performance against Scoil Oilibhéar from Coolmine in our first match of the season. We had a huge squad of 5th and 6th Class pupils which was great to see as well as some new additions this year as well.
Unfortunately, despite some wonderful football played by our girls it was not our day but the scoreline didn’t reflect the effort and teamwork that were on display. They might have been beaten on the pitch but battled to the final whistle. We are already looking forward to our next match v Castleknock Educate Together scheduled for Weds with a 14.00 throw in. Supporters welcome as always.
D7 Abú
Niamh & Anna
D7 Boys headed out the Navan Rd for a novel fixture against a new foe, Pelletstown ET. There were a few familiar faces on the opposition as some Plunkett’s and Phoenix teammates were on opposing sides.
D7, playing with a strong breeze, started very strongly and jumped into an early lead with a few well taken points. The old saying, take your points and the goals will come, proved prophetic as D7 turned the screw and raced into a half time lead.
The second half continued in a similar vein as D7 continued to assert their superiority and grabbed a few more green flags. As the half wore on, Pelletstown began to find their range and grabbed a few scores but D7 were home and hosed by then. The final score was 6-5 to 2-3.
A great team performance but it’s only one game down in our quest for glory. Next up will be a home fixture against Scoil Bríde of Blanchardstown next Thursday with a scheduled start of 13.00.
Padraig & Jack
GAA training will take continue for boys and girls on Monday on our ball court. Pitches in Grangegorman are not available. Collection from the school at 3.15pm where required.
Peadars 5th Class Art
Peadar’s Class used the TUD buildings as inspiration for some one point perspective drawing. We are blessed with the panoramic views from the top floor, and they were able to reinterpret their own versions of our local urban environment.
