What a beautiful day—and a lovely weekend to look forward to, weather-wise I believe!
It has been a busy week in school with GAA, soccer, athletics trials, planting, Digital Detox, and planning for Arts Week. A massive thank you to everyone for your contributions to Digital Detox. We told the children today that the Student Council will be adjudicating entries on Monday, with prizes to be given out afterwards.
We are also really looking forward to Arts Week. Thanks to Peadar for planning a fantastic range of activities, all centred on the theme of literature. These include an intercom quiz, a fake museum, a book extract competition, book cover design, buddy reading, storytelling, a play by 5th class, and a whole-school assembly on Friday morning where we will present our book extracts and sing a song together.
Our Board of Management met on Tuesday night.

Bullying and Child Protection Oversight Report shared.Thanks, Jen, for offering to help Cristina with the afterschool coordination.PGSA, Digital Detox will be April 22nd . Thanks to Louise O’Connor and all the quiz team for the work on the quiz, an enjoyable night by all. Meeting on April 29th to set out tasks for each class for Summer Fete. Policies shared. Thanks to ISM for sharing their roles and priorities for Term 3. Thanks to Padraig and Grace for their work selecting a New Maths Scheme for 2026 – 26. Thanks to Ciara for leading on the New Spelling scheme 2026 – 27. Thanks to Peadar, Carol and Anna for leading on Arts Week, Theme is Literature. Thanks to Gráinne & Katrina for organising the book order for 2026 – 27. Thanks to all who inputted into Abilities Awareness Day. Condolences to Rachelle, Laoise and Ada Dunne on death of Patrick Brennan. Condolences to Carmel Ní L on the death of her brother, Louise Coffey on the death of her mother and condolences offered to the family of Aisling O Reilly who was a valued link between D7ETNS and Dubray Bookshop.
Famine Walk
The Bronze Shoes Plaque
Both 4th Classes enjoyed a fabulous day for their Famine Walk, following the route along the Royal Canal from Ashtown Gate to Phibsboro. The trail is marked with plaques in the form of a pair of Children’s Bronze Shoes, which commemorates the journey taken by the families after they were evicted from their cottages and forced to emigrate to Canada.
The D7 children didn’t endure as many hardships on the day, and their walk was eased by a visit to the playground at Crescent Park. It was a very enjoyable walk with plenty of wildlife on view. I think the children might sleep well tonight.

Dublinia
On Thursday, 3rd Class went to Dublinia. We saw a skeleton of a Viking man from Norway who was buried in Ireland with his weapons. We learned about how Brian Boru drove the Vikings out of Ireland (for a while). Then we went into a room that looked like a street from the Middle Ages! We saw merchant ships. They weren’t worried about a few rats from the Middle East coming as stow-aways until…. the Black Death came with them. We also had a chance to try on helmets and armour and play some Medieval Fair games! Overall the trip was great and we walked there and back in the sunshine.
Lily, Hanora’s Class
Seó Faisin
6th Class recently hosted an exceptionally entertaining Seó Faisin for some of the 1st and 2nd Class students, bringing plenty of colour and creativity to our afternoon. The event was a fantastic opportunity for the older pupils to showcase their confidence and language skills, as all commentary throughout the show was delivered entirely as Gaeilge. The runway was filled with a wide variety of imaginative outfits. From sporty looks to summer styles, pyjamas to party wear, each participant brought their own personality and flair to the stage. The audience was thoroughly engaged, enjoying both the fashion and the lively descriptions as Gaeilge and made a wonderful audience, cheering enthusiastically and soaking up the atmosphere. Well done to 6th Class for organising such a memorable Seó Faisin. It was a fantastic celebration of style, confidence, and our children’s commitment to the Irish language .

D7 GAA Update
Our Girls had a hard-fought victory on Monday when they overcame a strong St John of God’s from Artane. D7 started brightly and were on top in all departments except where it counts, the scoreboard. Our opponents then found their groove and grabbed the first score of the day when their mid-fielder ran almost the length of the pitch before burying the sliothar in the back of the net.
Undeterred, D7 regained their composure and grabbed their own scores to leave the sides level at the break. With a whole raft of changes, D7 took the lead again in the second half and began to take control of the match. Our opponents proved a tough nut to crack and managed to get back within one score again but D7 held on for a narrow two-point victory.
Next up for the girls will be a home clash on Monday, 14.30 throw in, against An Seachtar Laoch from Ballymun, in an attempt to reach the knockout stages.
D7 Senior Boys
D7 continued their unbeaten run with a very tight tussle on Wednesday v Castleknock ET. In what was our first home match ever in Longmeadows, thanks to St Brendan’s, the sides were almost inseparable. In a closely fought battle where both defences proved very difficult to break down.
We were very unlucky as countless shots on goal drifted wide of the posts but crucially, we managed to get our noses in front and held out for the narrowest of victories. The lads are back in action away in the Bogeys on Thursday v Christ the King of Cabra. There will be no training for the Boys on Monday as the pitch is being used for the Girls home match.
Ameera’s amazing artwork
Well done to Ameera who created an Expo Mascot Exhibition which can be seen in her classroom, showcasing her wonderful drawing and colouring ability.
Congratulations Anna in 6th class who recently played in the National U16 Girls Cup with her water polo team, St Vincent’s WPC, and came home with a fantastic bronze medal!
What an amazing achievement and what a fabulous sport to be part of—well done, Anna!
Phizzfest

Invitation for students to show their Creative work at the Stoneybatter Festival 2026
Dear Parents,
I’m delighted to share a lovely opportunity for our students and families to take part in this year’s Stoneybatter Festival, a much‑loved, family‑focused celebration of the people, stories and creativity of our local community.
As part of the festival, Culture Underground is creating a Culture Walk – a virtual gallery of creative work. People discover artworks, poems, and stories “pinned” to different spots in the village as they explore the area. The work is all shown virtually, on your phone. It’s a simple, enjoyable way to experience local creativity while out and about during the festival.
Our school has been invited to contribute children’s work to this Culture Walk, and we would love for your child to take part.
What kind of work can be submitted?
We are inviting students to submit:
* A drawing or painting
* A short poem
* A short story (maximum 300 words)
Work can be on any theme, but it would be especially lovely if it reflects Stoneybatter – places your child knows, memories, local characters, family life, or what it feels like to live here.
Selected pieces will be featured as part of the Culture Walk during the Stoneybatter Festival, where families, neighbours and visitors will be able to discover and enjoy them.

If your child would like to take part, please:

* Deadline for submissions: June 1st
We will then forward the work to Culture Underground as part of our school’s contribution.
This is a wonderful chance for children to see their creativity valued and shared within the community, and to be part of a festival that celebrates Stoneybatter as a place full of imagination, stories and people.
