FUN: NOW AND THEN! (2nd Class, Peadar)

Show and Tell featured some toys and games that parents played with in ‘the olden days’ – some even as far back as the 1980s. In History, we learned that Monopoly has been played since the 1920s, that computer games were unknown before 1978, and that phones were once used for making phone calls.

Cíosa showed us a horse called Harry Dylan Tessa. You can throw him and he can clap.
Cian had an old and a new shuttlecock for badminton. The old one had feathers, as they had no plastic.
Hannah’s mum bought her teddy in Hamley’s in London when she was 7. It’s also a puppet.
Oran’s dad’s colour blindness prevented his joining the army, but he did get an army helmet. Oran uses it for games, but it’s too heavy for cycling with.
Blathnaid’s gem stone collection features obsidian, amethyst and emeralds.
The Children of Lir had a hard life, according to Lily. Then they died.
Daniel Moran showed how to filter water with his chemistry set.
Matilda’s friend took these photos in Yellowstone Park. Bear’s paw prints are actually not that big.
Aedh was given an old clay pipe from the Thames. Pipe-smoking was a popular activity amongst 8 year olds in those days, though not so much now.

Here are some ads for old toys, completed by 2nd Class. Pics are to illustrate.
SWINGBALL: Did you ever come running to you saying they were bored? Well this is your lucky day. Your kids will love Swingball. Two people have tennis rackets. Each player hits the ball around the pole. Sounds like fun to me. This wonderful game is made from plastic and a string and a tennis ball. If your children never play outside, well this game will change their lives.
The ball will never go over the wall.
A brilliant game where you never lose the ball. So go in the shop and get one today.
DEAD GIRL: Have lots of fun pulling people to the ground with their eyes closed. Are you brave enough to play Dead Girl? It’s scary but lots of fun.
MARBLES: It’s marble-ous! Don’t lose your marbles over this game.
Look up! Is it a bird/ Is it a plane? No, it’s Super Bunny!
Don’t be lame! Make you own game!
STICKS: Are you tired of normal flimsy sticks? Well, search no more as we have created the new game of Sticks.
