Well done to our Digital Detox winners.
Good afternoon, everyone,
I hope your week has been good. Thankfully, even though the weather was cold our building was toasty and comfortable.
Thanks so much to all the children and adults who gave generously to our Digital Detox fundraiser. We haven’t got an exact figure on how much we raised. I will let you know next week.
Thanks to our Student Council for all their help with collecting, collating and adjudicating the entries. I was so impressed with the standard and effort the children put into this. I hope you enjoyed the screen detox evening!
Gentle reminders
Punctuality is slipping a bit again. I know it was a dark week. We kindly request that you are here with your child at 8.30am. This is their social time before teaching and learning begins. Much can be learned during this time. Don’t forget school bags! Homework is often corrected first thing and essentials for homework are often in the bag. It is not necessary to bring your child’s lunch to school if it is forgotten. We have a small supply of sandwiches and fruit. We also have a water drinking tap in every classroom.
Also, when dropping your child to school, be mindful of the local residents. Please do not park illegally, creating hazards for residents and other road users.
Peadar’s 5th Class made some clay characters with scales – both fish and dragons – as part of their art lesson. The pieces were left to dry for several days, then painted and varnished.
See them here intact! They may all break on the way home!
Dublin International Piano Competition Education Project.
Both second classes enjoyed a piano workshop this week and last week with Maki Mutai from Dublin International Piano Competition Education Project.

Delighted to share some great news that a student from our school has won a competition run by the Irish Architecture Foundation on their Open House Dublin website, where they invited children to take part in “Building A World Where Everyone Belongs”.
Participants had to use their imagination and building skills to create unique LEGO® brick structure that represent a world where everyone is welcome. Whether it’s a playground for all kids to play, a city that makes everyone feel safe and welcome, a building or space that everyone can access and enjoy or a community where everyone is included, this competition encouraged young architecture enthusiasts to envision and construct spaces for us all to belong.
Zoe from 3rd class was selected as the winner of the Open House Junior competition
Zoe’s piece, ‘The Everyone Apartment’ was the winner of the 8-12 age category.
The judge said ‘Wow, Zoe has produced a very creative and inclusive solution to our housing needs! This cleverly designed model hosts lots of diversity, all built in a very neat and compact way. I’m particularly impressed at how many beds fit into the various floors!’
Zoe won a Lego set
4th class board games
Padraig’s 4th Class invited both of the Second Classes to road test their Board Games on Friday morning. The 4th class children designed their games during Procedural Writing and then put their theory into practice by designing the actual games. They had great fun creating and constructing their characters, boards and equipment required for all the games. Our visitors were very impressed and rated the games 10 out of 10, high praise indeed. Some of the comments from the 4th Class designers: It was so much fun sharing the board games with other people ( Lumen) and It was great fun teaching people how to play our board games ( Astrid).
Buddy Reading
Emily’s Senior Infants were in the library for reading this Tuesday. Unfortunately, some of the books were a bit difficult. Luckily, Peadar’s 5th Class were there to help out. Each pupil from Senior Infants has a reading buddy in 5th they link up with. Pictures show them making themselves comfortable in the new library surroundings.
2nd class art projects – houses for mice!
Have a nice weekend,
