Date for your diary! Thanks, PGSA for organising this lovely afternoon. Thanks, Aoife, for the poster!
Good afternoon parents and guardians,
I hope you have had a nice week. As always, we were busy in School with Science Week. Thanks to Veronica who gave every class a tutorial in the STEAM room.
We also launched our new library. Ciara sourced the books, and Carol took care of the interior design. The result is a beautiful space which will help us maintain the current love all our children have of fiction and non-fiction books. We have a library committee who are helping us keep a high standard of organisation.
All children have a weekly library slot.
Please remind your child to bring their book back ahead of their library day.
We love our new library.
Science Week
This year’s Science Week was a huge success, with all classes participating in exciting hands-on activities with our new STEAM resources. Students engaged with the “GiGo Learning Lab kits,” where they explored STEAM concepts through creative problem-solving and interactive challenges. The children created Theme Parks with moving rides, their very own trundle wheels for measuring distance, revolving cranes and electric cars. Our younger classes had a blast using Beebots to learn about sequencing and basic coding skills in a fun, engaging way. Older classes delved into more advanced coding projects using the macbooks and Microsoft MakeCode Arcade. These activities helped foster critical thinking and digital literacy. It was a week full of curiosity, collaboration, and learning, leaving everyone excited for more science adventures ahead!

Yard
Ciara’s class had fun decorating the yard with chalk.
Science of Sense
We are looking forward to the series ‘Science of Sense’ that is being launched by RTE next week. Well done to our 5th class participants.
The Science of Sense podcasts are now available on the RTEJr website: https://www.rte.ie/radio/podcasts/series/36955-the-science-of-sense/
Jack’s 3rd class went on a fantastic to a workshop on the excellent Bridges of Dublin exhibition. We explored the history and significance of the bridges spanning the River Liffey, from ancient crossings to modern engineering marvels. We learned about their architectural, cultural, and historical impact on Dublin’s development. Through engaging visuals and narratives, the exhibition celebrates these iconic structures that connect the city and its people.
We even got to construct our own bridges!!!
Enda’s 6th Class also attended The Bridges of Dublin exhibition at the Substation at Dublin Port. They loved the jumbo version of Fergal McCarthy’s illustrated portrait of the Liffey and its many bridges. During a workshop hosted by The Little Museum of Dublin, the pupils investigated the incredible artwork and learned about the history behind each of the bridges, from Hueston Bridge all the way to the East Link. Finally, the pupils had a go at building and naming their own Liffey Bridges.
Third Class have been learning about narrative writing and this week they got to read their short stories to Junior Infants, who were a great audience.
We will have our Parent Teacher meetings during the week November 25th – 29th. Slots will open next Tuesday morning.
Do you have a spare scooter?
Erin, our ALC teacher has asked me to reach out to our school community to see does anyone have a scooter like the one in picture, above, that they would like to donate to our Junior ALC?
As part of our school boxing programme, some 6th class children have been selected to take part in sparring sessions with children from local schools in Saint Saviour’s Amateur Boxing Club. They are really enjoying the sessions.
Have a great weekend,
Fionnuala
