Infants planting alliums, tulips and fritillaries for spring in our community garden

Good afternoon parents / guardians,

I hope your week has been good.

We are preparing for our parent teacher meetings. Slots will be released next week on Aladdin.

We had another meeting this morning to organise our winter bazaar. Our Parent Guardians Staff Association are progressing well with plans for this. At this meeting we discussed building connections with parents and guardians in our school community. We committed to hosting coffee mornings next year for all classes.

The date has changed for our next coffee morning for parents of children with additional needs. It will now take place in the staffroom on Friday December 1st at 8.40am.

Finally, Celine has asked me to remind you to pay any outstanding payments on Aladdin.

Niamh’s 4th Class have been working very hard over the last couple of weeks to create models of Mt. Vesuvius in Pompeii, Italy. In SESE they have been learning about Ancient Rome and about the devastating eruption in 79AD. Today we got the chance to use some of our science knowledge to make them explode

The 6th Classes participated in the Gold Medal boxing initiative in association with Dublin City Council from the middle of September. Following on from the sessions, 8 children were selected to progress to compete with children from other local schools in the St Saviours Boxing Club every Friday in November culminating in their showcase event on December 1st where they will spar in the boxing ring under the supervision of the boxing coaches. Here in D7 ET we have been very fortunate to be part of this programme for a few years now and it’s a great opportunity for children to try out a new activity. We might have the next Kelly Harrington or Michael Carruth in our midst!

Well done to Marco and Jack in 4th class who were presenters on an RTE junior show The Science of Sense.  They are now available as podcasts on RTE.

This new series is a voyage of discovery through six environmental elements – our Ocean, Inland waterways, soil, air, forests, and biodiversity. This is suitable for children age 8- 12

Marco and Jack present episodes 2 and 6 (Forests and Ocean).

Science Blast

On another science note, Veronica’s class have been accepted to take part in ESB Science Blast, 2024. They will be exhibiting in RDS on Tuesday 5th March next year. They will be investigating What role do plants play in sustainability? They have some nice ideas for bringing some greenery to the school grounds.

Cabra HSE Dental Clinic

We have been contacted by the general dental surgeon with the HSE working in Dublin North Central. He is currently spearheading a new initiative in our area, the purpose of which is to improve access to the dental service for children with autism.

He is setting up a waiting list for these patients so that he may begin to offer the children regular appointments in their local clinic.

Once he has completed the waiting list your local dental clinic will be in touch to arrange a dental examination.

Saying ‘sleep tight for the little winter bulbs’

Have a nice weekend,

Fionnuala.
