Olivia’s ( 2nd class) version of Quentin Blake’s art. Well done Olivia.

Good afternoon parents and guardians,

I hope you’ve all had a lovely week! We’re really looking forward to Democracy Week next week. By now, candidates should have let their class teacher know if they’re running. Next week, they’ll be bringing in the campaign posters they’ve made at home and will also give a short speech to their electorate, sharing their campaign promises. It’s always such an exciting week!

Just a gentle reminder to families — if your child forgets their lunch or water bottle, we do have a supply of sandwiches available, along with a water tap and cups in every classroom. We also have fresh fruit on hand for students.

Also, please remember to email patrick@d7educatetogether.com if you wish to attend the Gaeilge classes for parents / guardians.

And finally, a quick reminder that the PGSA AGM is on Monday, October 20th. Everyone is very welcome to come along! Tea and coffee will be served from 7:00 p.m., and the meeting will start at 7:30 p.m.

Big Cat Readers Round Up

We’re rounding up all our Big Cat readers next week to do a stocktake and sort them out. Some classes bring these home for homework, while others use them to practise reading in class. It is very possible that some of these are lying around houses, down the sides of couches, under beds or sitting boldly on shelves! If you do have any at home, please send them back into school for Monday. No judgement passed…the longer they’ve been gone, the more happy we will be to see them! See picture below for samples.

Please note the following:

·                     If you have an unused hanger to accompany the donation it would be helpful.

·                     Any bags used to bring the costumes into school can be left with us. We can then re-use the bags for costume collections the following week.

·                     Can you ensure that any accessories that accompany the costumes, e.g. wigs, glasses, are attached or all in the same bag.

Your ‘new- to -you costumes’ can be picked up at the same times on Thursday 16th for Junior infants – 2nd class parents and Friday 17th for 3rd-6th parents.

Please note this event will be for parents only!

Caifé Gaeilge Rang a 6

6th Class held a Caifé Gaeilge yesterday, where we spent some time chatting in Irish and enjoying a great selection of homemade treats. Thank you to everyone who brought in baked goods — they were an-bhlásta!

We practised our spoken Irish and had plenty of conversations on all sorts of topics (though most of them ended up being about how good the food was!)

D7ET Senior Boys

The Senior Boys team played Coolock on Thursday afternoon. Coolock had topped their group and won all their matches so we knew it would be a tough task. Coolock had a super start and rattled the net a few times before we came back with a few scores – a nice point from Elliot and a goal from Crean. Poor Fred, our captain, had to be taken off with a pulled muscle and he had been superb in the opening ten mins – that didn’t help. Our defence was under huge pressure and if it wasn’t for brilliant work from Oscar Wang, Oscar Condon, Yuhang and Luke we would have been in real trouble. At half time the lads had a big chat among themselves and it was great to see Luke, the injured Tom and others setting out what needed to change. They were a different team in the second half. Shea had been super in goals but we needed his tackling out the field after he went in full back the opposition didn’t get another goal during the match. Theo made 3 point-blank saves and kept us in the game. Lots of lads stepped up and impressed. Iggy and Rossa made some great catches as did Jude who charged at goal time after time and nabbed a few scores.  We started to claw our way back into the game and if there had been another ten mins in the game we might well have won.  Many lads deserve mention including Eric, Will and in particular Elliot who was dragged down multiple times and then popped over the free from the foul which was great to see. Also possibly the score of the game from Jack who dummied his marker twice then popped it over the bar with a bicycle kick. However, man of the match for me was Luke who was a great leader all through the match. Well done to all the boys ye did yerselves proud.

Martin

Martin, from everyone in D7ETNS, thank you so much for your time, your detailed reports, your encouragement, and coaching. The staff and children really appreciate it all.
