3rd class Aurora Borealis
Good afternoon, parents and guardians,
I hope you have had a nice week. Thanks to the parents and guardians from Sarah’s class for organising the coffee morning in the staffroom this morning. Next Friday it is the parents and guardians from Grace’s class who will have their coffee morning.
I know next week will be busy for everyone, given that the parent–teacher meetings are on. We are also busy planning the bazaar. We are hoping that by having it at the end of November, it will be well and truly over by the time the really busy festive season kicks in. Staff in school do appreciate the work that goes into the bazaar. We know the planning it takes to make a bookshop/coffee shop “pop up” on a Sunday in a school. However, trust me, it is creating lovely memories for the children and much-appreciated funds for our big school.
A gentle reminder that booking slots for PT meetings will close at 6 p.m. Please book your slot before then. We do ask that parents don’t ask teachers if they can record the meeting, as it is embarrassing having to say no.
A reminder also that, as per the note during the week, our school staff OIDE Child Protection training date has been rescheduled to December 8th.
D7ET vs Lucan East ET Debate – Second Victory for D7ET
Enda’s 6th class took part in the second round of the Concern Primary Debates competition this week when they faced off against Lucan East ET, making it the first time two Educate Togethers faced off in the Concern Primary Debate competition. An historic day indeed. The motion debated was: ‘Weekends should be 3 days long.’ D7ET were proposing the motion.
The debating panel of Penny, Tom Cremin, Oscar, Tom McMenamin, Elise and Tom Leech had done their homework. They fought the good fight for the three day weekend and pointed to statistics demonstrating increased productivity due to well rested workers and the benefits of spending more time with family.
It was a very close result with Lucan East ET proving to be a formidable opposition. However, in the end the motion was carried which makes it two from two for the D7ET debating team! The next debate is ‘Fines are the best way to tackle textile waste.’

The Grand Central Cinema Club

On Wednesday, all of our 6th Class students took a very exciting trip to Dubray Bookshop on Mary Street for a special author event with the brilliant Alan Nolan. Alan introduced us to his brand-new book, The Grand Central Cinema Club, and shared the stories and ideas that inspired it.
During the event, we learned about the writing process, the art of illustration, and what it takes to bring a book from an idea to the page. Alan even showed us how to draw our own yetis — with some wonderfully creative (and slightly wild!) results.
The children asked thoughtful and engaging questions, showing real curiosity about storytelling and book creation. We hope the visit has inspired many future authors and illustrators, and perhaps one day we’ll see some of their names on the shelves of Dubray Bookshop too.

An Garda Síochána have kindly offered to visit the school to do bike marking as well. I will let you know once a date has been confirmed.
Have a lovely weekend,
Fionnuala
