4th class visit to Custom House today

Dear parents and guardians,

I hope you’ve had a lovely week.

We are currently busy with end-of-year planning, while also getting things set up for the new school year. Katrina and Gráinne have already organised the purchase of next year’s books. Many thanks to them for getting ahead on that. As part of our end-of-year tidy-up, please keep an eye out at home for any school library or textbook items that may need to be returned.

Thank you to everyone who attended Sports Day yesterday. We know it was a little different this year, with families remaining outside the pitch. While this arrangement made things more spacious and easier to manage for the children and staff, we are aware it may have felt like parents and guardians were at a distance.

A big thank you to Pádraig for organising all the activities and equipment. The children had the chance to try a wide range of events and games. The real stars of the day were our wonderful 6th class students, who explained the drills clearly and patiently to the younger classes. We’re also grateful to our fabulous TY students who returned to help out.

Reminder: Our Summer Fête will take place on Sunday, June 22nd. This year’s fête will be extra special, as we’re inviting all past pupils to return and see our new school building. There will also be a display of projects and memorabilia celebrating the history of D7ETNS. Please spread the word!

Finally, our 6th class students will be heading off to Delphi Adventure Centre next Wednesday.  Huge thanks to Bridget, Patrick, Niamh Ní, and Enda for accompanying the group.

Our 2nd class students also have an exciting week ahead, with their school tour to Fort Lucan on Wednesday.

Custom House Museum

On Friday, Padraig & Patrick’s Classes went to visit the Custom House Visitor Centre. There was lots of information about the War of Independence, the Great Famine and loads more. Before the building was built the land in this part of Dublin was a swamp and if you look closely at one of the pictures you can actually see Shrek looking back!

On the way there, we passed the Dublin Portal and waved to the people in Lithuania. After our visit we had a picnic outside the EPIC museum and found a lovely playground on the way back to school. It was fun.

Bike Week competition

A very proud Anna displaying her winning poster for Bike Week competition. Congratulations Anna

🏳️‍🌈Happy Pride Month 🏳️‍🌈

Grainne & Marie’s Second class have been learning about Pride Month as part of the Equality and Justice strand of our Learn Together Curriculum, we have created a beautiful Pride Rainbow in our window, we hope it brings a smile from the yard 🌈

We had a particular focus on exploring different types of family. Elliott’s dad Elton very kindly came in and transformed our classroom into a recording studio where the children wrote and performed an original song to accompany their entry to the INTO’s ‘Different Families Same Love’ competition. Thank you so much Elton! Check out our entry here: https://youtu.be/x4fh4e7d9kc

We are unbelievably proud of our creative class.

D7 & D15 – Keeping Childhood Smartphone Free

I hope you’re well. As you know, the D7 and D15 Keeping Childhood Smartphone Free information talk for parents took place on 16th May in D7ETNS and was well attended by over 250 parents/carers across all of the participating schools. The slides from the presentation are available, attached. Very many thanks to those of you who submitted questions to the information panel. There is an attached document with answers to the questions submitted.

Following the meeting, and along with 13 other local schools, we will be implementing the voluntary D7 and D15 Keeping Childhood Smartphone Free Code. Please read the code carefully, and if you wish to participate in this, we are now inviting families sign the following code: SMARTPHONE DOC

We will follow up on this every year by undertaking annual surveys, monitoring the level of involvement in this initiative across all participating schools.

We will be updating the school’s Acceptable Use Policy, and we will seek the feedback of all families on this at the time.

We thank you for your support with this initiative, and we look forward to supporting families as you navigate this topic.

Irish Rivers

Róisín and Kathleen’s 1st Class have been learning all about the rivers in Ireland and around the World. After learning about the Irish Rivers in class, particularly the Liffey and the Shannon they children spent the month of May doing projects at home on a variety of rivers including the Liffey, the Amazon, the Tolka, the Vistula, the Bandon, the Seine and the Shannon. Come up to the second floor to see our projects on display!

Camogie

Our D7ETNS camogie team wrapped up their season with a spirited performance in the semi-final against Scoil Moibhí. It was a tightly contested game, with both teams evenly matched in skill and determination, making for a thrilling spectacle.

Despite the cold and windy conditions, the girls gave it their all. Scoil Moibhí managed to score a few early goals, which proved difficult to come back from, but the girls never gave up. Right to the final whistle, D7ETNS showed resilience, teamwork, and heart—qualities we are incredibly proud of.

This marks the end of the camogie season for the year. We’re already looking forward to getting back on the pitch next year!

A special shout-out to our 6th class players: thank you for your commitment and energy throughout the year. We wish you all the best in secondary school and hope you continue playing camogie wherever your next chapter takes you!
