5th class school tour to beautiful Lough Muckno in Castleblayney
Dear Parents and Guardians,
I hope you’ve all had a lovely week and have been enjoying the glorious sunshine!
It’s been a busy and exciting time here at school. This week, our Senior Infants and 5th Class went on their school tours.
Next week, we’ll be bidding the fondest farewell to Jake, our school taxi driver, who has been part of our school community for many, many years. Jake’s warmth, kindness, and dedication have touched so many lives. We will truly miss him. I don’t envy Bus Éireann’s task in trying to replace someone who is, quite simply, irreplaceable.
We are currently reviewing our Bí Cineálta policy, which plays an important role in fostering a respectful and supportive environment for all students in our school. We would greatly appreciate it if you could take a few moments to read through the draft policy, attached, and send any feedback to myself, fionnuala@d7educatetogether.com
We want to ensure the policy reflects the values and needs of everyone in our school community.
Finally, thanks to all the students who sent in artwork for the student-friendly version of the policy.
Santry Athletics 2025

On Wednesday we sent a crack team of athletes to compete in the primary school athletics competition in Morton Stadium Santry. The day kicked off with the parade of the participating schools which made a lovely sight as the children paraded around the running track to the sound of Chariots of Fire.
The first events were the field events, Shot Putt, Long Jump and High Jump. In our first year competing in these events, D7 took home a bronze medal in the U14 Girls Shot Putt. Running concurrently were the 80 m sprints, where we competed in all categories but with a very high standard, we were unsuccessful this year.
Next up were the 600 metre races where we had contestants in both U14 Girls and Boys events with our contestants running bravely in the scorching heat and staying competitive to the finish line.

The final events were the much-coveted team relay events. With so many children competing, it took a huge organisational effort to coordinate all of the teams and to keep to the timetable. All our runners performed superbly and in one of the final events our U14 Boys managed a podium finish.
It was a great experience for all of the competitors, and it was lovely to see them all cheering on their schoolmates. Thanks to the parents who made the long trek out to support the athletes and a huge thanks to the organisers from Cumann na mBunscol who ran a very tight ship.
Bye-bye Martin

We marked a bittersweet moment as we said goodbye to Martin, our wonderful lollipop man, who finished with us today. Martin’s familiar face will be greatly missed by pupils, parents, and staff alike. Our new lollipop person, Sandy, will start with us next week.
GAA update
Both D7 teams will compete in their respective semi-finals next week, venue, date and opponents to be determined. It looks like both fixtures will be away so lifts will be needed. Please keep an eye on Alladin messages as we will be relying on parental assistance. Training will continue on Monday as we try to keep our momentum with these crunch matches on the horizon.

Carol’s Senior Infants Research Local Plant Species

Many of the children in Senior Infants had noticed a particular pink flower growing everywhere in Dublin 7 so we decided to try and find out what it was. Luckily for us, Rowan was a plant expert, and he knew that the plant was called Milkweed so not much research needed there! However, we wanted to know more so the children set off about finding out about this plant. Hazel wrote out some facts on her day off on Tuesday and we found out that it is an invasive species and very dangerous to herbivores. We also found out that the butterfly eggs we could see on many of the plants were from the monarch butterfly.
We brought some milkweed into our classroom and carefully studied its stems, leaves and blooms. We made pencil drawings and washed them with ink.
