Ciara taught us all to dance at a ceilí mór on Thursday. We had great Irish dancing role models!
Good afternoon, everyone,
I hope you have all had a nice week.
Bhí seachtain iontach againn anseo ar scoil ag ceiliúradh ár dteanga agus ár gcultúr Gaelach. Bhí drámaíocht againn, pictiúrlann, damhsa céilí, ealaín agus corpoideachas Gaeilge
We had a wonderful week here celebrating our language and culture. We had drama, ceilí dancing, art and PE lessons all in Irish. It was lovely to see the children all in their green today!
Thanks, Patrick, for coordinating it all.
School attire

Some families like to have branded school clothing. The company who supplied our hoodies are happy to supply D7ETNS school branded clothing for anyone who wishes to purchase it.
Please click on this link if you want to place an order.
Keeping Childhood Smartphone Free
D7ETNS and other local schools are working together to establish an interest in families on Keeping Childhood Smartphone Free. Local schools in D7 are hoping to launch a “Keeping Childhood Smartphone Free Code” with our families.
Please fill out the survey below if you have any opinions to share on this topic.
Lighthouse Cinema

As part of our Seachtain na Gaeilge celebrations, 5th and 6th Class had a fantastic trip to the Lighthouse Cinema to watch Amhrán na Mara (Song of the Sea). The beautifully animated Irish film tells the magical story of an adventure filled with Irish folklore and legend.
The trip was a wonderful way to immerse ourselves in the Irish language. The students were captivated by the stunning animation, touching story, and enchanting music.
A big thank you to our teachers for organising the trip and to Lighthouse Cinema for hosting us. It was a brilliant way to celebrate Seachtain na Gaeilge and embrace the beauty of the Irish language in film!
We Rocked the Rest of the World Rocks Competition!

Our school recently took part in the Rest of the World Rocks competition, an exciting global challenge hosted by Times Tables Rock Stars. Competing against schools from all over the world, our students battled it out to see who could answer the most multiplication questions and prove their times tables skills!
Over the course of the competition, our students showed incredible dedication, speed, and accuracy. We are proud to announce that D7ETNS finished 22nd in the world! A special shout-out to our top-scoring students, who made a huge contribution to our final score and will receive a certificate for their efforts.
This event was a fantastic way to improve our mental maths, work as a team, and have fun while learning. Well done to everyone who took part—you truly rocked those times tables!
The Síolta were sown!

Well done to all our budding gardeners this week. Together we sowed around 900 pea, scallion & potato seeds.
Looking forward to seeing our first little seedlings in a few weeks 🌱🌱
Thanks Anna and Patrick for coordinating the seed and compost shopping and timetabling the gardening.
Irish language classes
We’re all set to start with the first block of Irish language classes for parents/guardians.
There’s enough time in the year to do two blocks of 5 weeks classes for different groups of parents. Beginners course starting on Wednesday 26th of March, then 2,9,30 April and 7th of May. Classes start at 7pm and finish at 8pm taking place in the school. Course costs €25 per person. The second 5-week course will be for improvers. We currently only have one teacher available so, if there is big demand, we may have to do a lottery to fill the 20 places in the class. I am still trying to find a second teacher so that we can have two courses running at the same time and will update if this becomes possible.
Everyone interested in the beginners course who can make the dates above can apply by sending an email to patrick@d7educatetogether.com by next Wednesday (12th March) , and I will let parents/guardians know by Friday.
Thanks Patrick and Jen for coordinating parent feedback.
Soccer

Girls D7 League soccer match took place on Tuesday 11th of March against Gaelscoil Uí Earcáin in Johnstown pitch.
D7 won 5-0 with goals scored by Maja, Sheena, Alba and Alannah. Well done to everyone!
Companion dog

Faye, the companion dog, visited Grace’s senior infant class today. She helped us to learn phonics and then helped us to dig the clay for planting our potatoes. Faye is still in training, so it was a very new experience for her to be with the class, but the children loved having her and there were great lessons for them in learning how to be with dogs. Faye inspired the children’s writing today. Look at some of their lovely work:

Bogey’s Cross Country
Trials will take place on Wednesday morning for the Cross-Country event taking place next Thursday in John Paul Park (The Bogies). We received short notice this year and were unable to schedule trials any earlier due to a hectic week in D7 with soccer matches and a whole host of activities for Seachtain na Gaeilge. If your child is interested in participating, please remind them to bring in suitable running shoes on Wednesday.
The trials are open to children from 3rd to 6th classes inclusive and the race distances range from 600m for the 3rd class children up to 1 km for the 6th classes.
Regards, Padraig
St Patrick’s Cathedral

Peadar’s 5th Class visited St Patrick’s Cathedral on Thursday as part of our patron saint’s celebration week.
They were given a tour of the building by our friendly guide Bola, then they worked on some art, inspired by the beautiful surroundings.
Community News

Sam, Aaron , Senan and Daire from 6th class and Daniel from 3rd class have been taking part in cleaning up Annamoe Parade every month since late 2023. They are members of a community group called Annamoe Parade Clean Up who have plans to revitalise this walkway. Lots of students from D7ET use the Parade to get to school and everyone was tired of how dirty it was getting.
The council have just granted the group €15,000 to green and paint the space. The children will be involved in talking to artists and will help to decide what they would like to see on the walls.
Well done everyone!
A quick reminder that the Vibrant Community Fund is currently open for applications, with a deadline of 24th March 2025.
