Brat Brídes from Carol’s Junior Infants with oils and pastels
Good afternoon parents and guardians,
I hope you have had a nice week.
As always it has been busy in school.
We are looking forward to our bank holiday weekend.
See you all on Tuesday, February 4th
St. Brigid’s Day
Both second classes celebrated St. Brigid’s Day with some dancing in the golden bandstand today. We made St. Brigid’s cloaks with leaf printing and fabric and then created a large cloak with all 60 pieces of fabric.
The Leinster Badminton Primary Schools
By Rosa Bacik
The Leinster Badminton Primary Schools kicked off at 9am sharp in Baldoyle, with everyone fired up and ready to play to their best of their ability. The girls won the majority of their first-round robin matches and were headed to the quarterfinals. The boys, after a gruelling round robin, just missed out on the quarterfinals. They continued supporting the girls with enthusiasm, showing an abundance of resilience. The girls pulled through the quarterfinals and made it to the semifinals. It was a thrilling match, losing by only a few points, despite having beaten them in the earlier stages. They were still immensely proud to be 3rd and claimed their medals, overjoyed at representing D7ET in the Leinster Badminton Primary Schools. On the 5th of March, the girls’ team will be attending the All Irelands!
Thanks, Michelle, for coordinating our school team.
St Patrick’s Cathedral
Donna’s 5th class had a great tour of St Patrick’s Cathedral this week, where they got to try some calligraphy with quills and learned about Medieval Dublin.
D7 boys do us proud in Croker
Last Saturday night was the big opening GAA match of the year in Croke Park. Thousands of fans were assembled to see the Dubs take on Mayo. At half time in front of an excited crowd the local team St Brendan’s played Templeogue Synge St. There was a big gang of boys from our school on the team including Crean, Max, Eric, Will, Theo, Danny, Evan, Oscar McC, Devin, Leo, Ervine, Daniel and Lorenzo. I watched the boys play and they were really super. The game opened with a super save from Oscar of an almost certain goal. He cleared the ball to Crean who chipped the keeper for a goal. Next up was Danny who nearly burst the net with his goal. Max volleyed home the third and Will sent a looping shot over the bar to seal the win. They did the school and their families proud.
Padraig and Enda were at the game and saw all the action.
Thanks, Martin, for this report.
Handball
Well done to Fred who represented D7ETNS in the U13 Boy’s Singles handball yesterday and made it to the semifinals. There were 42 children from 11 schools at the competition. Fred plays handball with Kevins Hurling & Camogie Club in Crumlin.
Thanks to Padraig who supported Fred’s entry into Cumann na mBunscol.
Fred has kindly offered to teach handball to his friends on one of our yards that is very like a handball alley!
STEAM
On Thursday Niamh’s 6th Class put their learning into action using solar energy to power a robot to ‘walk a tightrope’. It was great fun and really solidified what we learned during our SESE lessons about The Sun. We may need to have another go when it’s a little sunnier though!
Have a lovely weekend everyone,
Fionnuala
