Snowmen from Katrina’s 2nd class
Good afternoon parents and guardians,
I hope you have had a nice week.
I am sure you are all getting ready for the Toyshow tonight. There was lots of chat about it at school today.
Thank you for being so responsive to our scooter call out recently. We are delighted to say we now have a quality scooter for every child in our Junior ALC.
Reminder to all parents and guardians in Peadar’s class, please book your PT meeting before the slots close tonight at 9pm. Róisín and Kathleen will have their PT meetings in the new year.
Lots to look forward to next week.
On Monday we are hosting an interschools chess tournament. Best wishes to our D7ETNS team – Fionn, Leo, Gowtham, Frank, James, Hughie, Iggy and Adrian.
On Tuesday we have our Student Council elections. Well done to our candidates this week. Their speeches were fabulous.
On Thursday, 1st and 2nd class will go to see The Muppet Christmas Carol in the Lighthouse.
Centra art competition
Congratulations to our winners of the Centra art competition. Their winning entries are displayed in the shop.
Boxing
Well done to our 6th class children who were selected to take part in sparring sessions in Saint Saviour’s Amateur Boxing Club. They enjoyed their last session this week.
Senior Infants start Picker Pals Programme
We have started a litter picking programme called Picker Pals www.pickerpals.org We are learning about litter, how it affects us and our environment and most importantly, what we can do about it. We started this week with the front of our school grounds and filled two bags full of litter in 10 minutes! We couldn’t believe it!
We plan to go litter picking a few times a week and educate those around us about litter, recycling and waste. We have a litter picking backpack that the class will take turns bringing home for the weekend. We started last weekend with Chloe , Aoibhe and their families, so keep an eye out for our Picker Pals reports on the backpack’s adventures. They will be on display on level 1.

Winter Solstice celebration.
Dear Families,
Plans and preparations are underway for our annual Winter Solstice celebration.
We will hold our whole-school lantern walk on the morning of Thursday 19th December, after drop-off time.
For families new to the school, this lantern walk will take place on the Grangegorman campus. More details to follow, so save the date!
We are really looking forward to sharing this morning with you, as our opportunities to come together as a whole school are limited. The darkest days of the year and the slow, gradual return of the light and warmth of the sun have been marked by people for thousands of years. Our sun is unifying and universal-we can all look upward and contemplate the same sun. We can, simultaneously, all look inward and consciously cultivate our own energy and warmth.
Across traditions, this time of year is associated with gratitude, with giving, with reflecting on the year that has been and with setting intentions for the one to come. It seems appropriate then, that we too gather and celebrate this celestially, socially and culturally important occasion together, as a community.
Evergreens
In preparation for a separate in-school solstice celebration , we are collecting any spare evergreen branches you may have from your garden, or maybe some cuttings from your Christmas tree. A box for these will be left at the front of the school.

Forest School
Second class enjoyed a winter walk to Grangegorman to visit the Forest School. We sang for the birds and in turn they sang for us. We’ve been learning about how to take care of wildlife during the winter, so we tied our pine cone bird feeders in the trees in the Forest School. We hope the birds enjoy the seeds.
Have a nice weekend,
Fionnuala
