What an achievement! D7ETNS Community Credit Union Quiz winners on Monday.

Good afternoon parents and guardians,

I hope you have had a nice week.

Thanks to the PGSA committee members for meeting on Wednesday evening. I am sure they will disseminate any relevant information to the class groups.

Parents will likely be aware that Faye, an assistance dog, visits the school from time to time. Faye belongs to a student in the school. Faye is highly trained, gentle and well-socialised with children. She is fully vaccinated and toilet trained. At all times, Faye is under the control of her trained dog handler and supervised by a responsible adult. Designated toileting areas and appropriate cleaning procedures are in place to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all pupils and staff.

These visits are carefully managed and are intended to support pupil wellbeing in a safe and structured manner.

If you feel there may be any risk to your child, whether due to allergies, anxiety around dogs, or any other concern, please contact secretary@d7educatetogether.com so that appropriate arrangements can be made.

In other news, if you have a moment, please listen to our Play Therapist, Regino Igoe chat with Oliver Callan on Tuesday speaking about ‘supporting our children’s friendships’.

Credit Union Table Quiz

D7ET came put in a stellar performance at the first round of the Credit Union Primary School table quiz in Blanchardstown on Monday. The Crowne Plaza was packed to the rafters with brainy kids. Approximately 200 pupils split across 50 teams took part. The sheer number of teams participating makes it all the more impressive that one D7ET team came out on top in first place with an unmatched 72 out of 80.Well-done Anna, India, Culann and Archie.  Another D7ET team of Fred, Jeremy, Luke and Siún just missed out on a qualifying place. They placed 5th out of over 50 teams. An incredible result! The qualifying team of Anna, Archie, Culann and India will progress to the regional competitions in Portlaoise on Saturday. Whatever the outcome at the weekend, both teams should be incredibly proud of how well they represented themselves and the school. Future University Challenge participants?

Thanks Enda and Niamh.

Kilmainham Gaol

Peadar’s 5th Class went to Kilmainham Gaol on Wednesday and stepped into a living museum of Irish history.  We saw where Michael Caine served his sentence in The Italian Job, where Paddington made marmalade, and where U2  sang Celebration (though we never learned what they were in for).

We saw various cells occupied by Eamonn De Valera at different times (he must have been very bold!) and where Robert Emmet and Parnell stayed in a special guest room. Lastly, we went to the stonebreaker’s yard and heard of a daring escape where prisoners waited for a tram into town afterward. This was all the more surprising as it is 20 mins walk to the nearest tram now.

Lauren’s 5th Class also had a fantastic day exploring Kilmainham Gaol, diving deep into Ireland’s history. As they walked through the corridors and stood in the cells, they learned about the lives of the people who played key roles in shaping the nation. The stories of bravery, resilience, and hope sparked thoughtful questions and great discussions. It was a memorable day for all!

Animals in Spring

Lauren’s 5th have also been creating some art based on animals in spring using colouring pencils. Using half of a photo, we completed the other side of the picture based on what we think it might look like.

Collins Barracks

The 3 2nd classes enjoyed a trip to Collins Barracks. We saw the clothes from the past and the military exhibitions. We also spent some time in the Dead Zoo.

World Book Day Reminder

We will be celebrating World Book Day next week on Thursday, 5th March.  As a school, we are always working towards fostering an environment where reading is celebrated and encouraged, and it is wonderful to have a whole day dedicated to just that.  In celebration of reading and to remind us of the endless, invaluable possibilities and learning experiences that books create, we are excited to share with you some activities organised for this year’s WBD:

One School One Book

Each class in the school will read and respond to the same book, The King Who Banned the Dark, by Emily Haworth-Booth.  Classes will explore different aspects of the story and will be coming together to share their thoughts at assemblies. It will be nice for the children to all be on the same page, so to speak, and create a sense of community around the day.  We look forward to hearing all the different responses and interpretations that the classes will bring to the assemblies.

Surprise Reader

We are hoping that each class will have one ‘surprise reader’ on WBD to bring in and read a story/excerpt from a book/poem – this could be a parent/grandparent or someone special to children in the class.  If you are interested in being/suggesting the ‘surprise reader’, please contact your child’s teacher to coordinate the visit. Please remember not to let the surprise slip to your child!

Swap Shop

We will be having our very own ‘swap shop’ for books, organised and coordinated by our 6th class Library Committee. We ask that each child, where possible, brings in a book that they no longer want from Friday 27th February to Wednesday 4th March.  There will be tables at the bottom of the staircases to collect these. On WBD, each class will visit the ‘swap shop’ and choose one new book to bring home. Please ensure that any books brought to school are age appropriate and in good condition. Donations of more than one book would be most welcome, but not necessary. We will use any excess stock to replenish class libraries.

Book Tokens

As always, the children will be given World Book Day tokens to bring home and spend in their local bookshop if they wish.

As you can see, we have a jam-packed World Book Day organised for next week.  In the interest of keeping books at the core of our celebration, we will not be having fancy dress as an activity.  We really look forward to all that is planned and are sure that it will be a fantastic day!

Thanks Ciara.
