6th class Hyperrealism art. Well done Jess for this stunning masterpiece.

Good afternoon, parents and guardians,

I hope you have had a nice week. We have had another busy week here in D7.

Our after-school classes started this week. Many thanks to Cristina for coordinating everything. It is wonderful that the children can fit an after-school activity into their day while remaining on site.

Best wishes to Fionn, Lennox, Eli, Wynn, Jack, Theo, and Ryan, who are taking part in our Checkmates Winter Tournament in the school this Sunday.

Thank you to the parents from Jack C.’s class who attended the coffee morning this morning. Next week, it will be the turn of families from Katrina’s class.

Thank you to all the parents of children in 5th Class who attended our RSE meeting last night. Many thanks to Gráinne and Ciara for facilitating the meeting and for sending the relevant links afterwards.

A gentle reminder to families of children in Junior Infants and 2nd Class that the HSE dentist will be visiting our school on Tuesday, 20th January 2026. The hygienist will give each class a short presentation, and James, the local HSE dentist, will check the teeth of those children who return signed consent forms.

Culture Day:

We will be celebrating our Culture Day this year on Wednesday 28th  January. This will give us a chance to appreciate the wide range of cultures that are represented in our school community. Our theme this year is dance. Classes will be exploring the cultural significance of dance around the world and will be breaking out a few moves!

We would love to invite parents and guardians into our classrooms to share knowledge of traditions from their own cultures (including Irish!) with the pupils. You might like to teach a dance, show a video of a dance or a traditional costume, or simply have a chat about a tradition (dance or not) from your family’s culture.

If you would like to visit on the day, please get in touch with your child’s class teacher next week.

If anyone you would be interested in hosting workshops for multiple classes, please email carol.h@d7educatetogether.com

For an idea of what to expect, here’s a blast from the past in our old school building

6th Class Run Club

6th Class started their Run Club on a cool, crisp and sunny Thursday afternoon. The club aims are simple: to get a little fresh air; exercise; and make more use of the leafy Grangegorman campus on our doorstep. The emphasis is on enjoyment, not pace. Enda’s 6th Class are tracking the total distance run by the pupils and comparing it to the distance to local landmarks. They’ve already passed out the GPO, Kilmainham, Boland’s Mills and St. Stephen’s Green (we are doing the 1916 Rising this week of course). Next stop is Dublin Airport at 10km. The pupils hope to make it as far as the Hill of Tara at 40km and maybe even marathon distance at 42km.

Caragh’s 3rd class visit The National Museum,  Collins Barracks

On Tuesday morning, Caragh’s 3rd class visited The National Museum Collins Barracks. We had a very interesting, guided tour focusing on changes in fashion and food throughout Irish history. Some of our favourite parts were seeing the giant decorative teapot, the hot chocolate pot and examining the old dresses! We also had lots of fun playing in the courtyard before our tour!

Narrative writing

Paul’s class were learning about Narrative writing this week and on Friday they got to read their own stories to Junior Infants. Thanks to Arlene’s class for being such a brilliant audience.

TU Dublin Conservatoire

We would like to thank TU Dublin Conservatoire for inviting our students to the TU Dublin East Quad Concert Hall on Wednesday, January 21st. Our children will be incredibly fortunate to experience staged scenes from four iconic operas, including Hansel and Gretel by Humperdinck and Così fan tutte by Mozart. This promises to be a wonderful opportunity and a truly memorable experience for them, allowing them to appreciate operatic music live.

GDA Vibrant Community Fund 2026

GDA got in touch to let you know that the GDA Vibrant Community Fund 2026 is now open for applications.

The Fund supports community-led projects and activities in the Grangegorman neighbourhood that bring people together and contribute positively to local community life. This year, grants of up to €2,500 are available for initiatives that are free and open to the community.

If you know of any local groups, organisations, or community-led initiatives who might benefit, we would be very grateful if you could pass this information on or share it through your usual channels.

Full details, including eligibility criteria and the application form, are available on our website here: https://ggda.ie/our-neighbourhood/vibrant-community-fund/

Have a lovely weekend everyone,

Fionnuala
