5th class rowing on Tuesday

Good afternoon everyone,

I hope you all had a lovely week. We enjoyed a wonderful Friendship Week—a great opportunity to reflect on what it means both to be a good friend and to have one. Throughout the week we had nature walks, song singing, assemblies, buddy reading, and art activities.
A big thank you to Gráinne for coordinating it all.

Our after-school activities also began this week, with Spanish, keyboard, science, karate, chess, and D&D on offer.
Thank you to Cristina for coordinating everything and for handling all communications with families and tutors.

Finally, a special thank you to Sarah, who nominated our school to receive the Gift of a Library—an initiative sponsored by Aviva in partnership with Children’s Books Ireland. The project is part of Aviva’s commitment to social action, diversity, and equality. These gifted libraries celebrate positive representation and inclusion, and we are so pleased to be part of it.

As part of the gift, our school will also enjoy a Monster Doodle—a large-scale art activity where students create their own imaginative monsters. 2nd Class will have the chance to take part in this exciting event.

Friendship Week 2025

The staff and children had such a wonderful time celebrating ‘Friendship Week 2025’.  It gave us a lovely opportunity to embed our Bí Cineálta strategies and to focus on creating a positive culture and climate in the school.  There were so many wonderful opportunities for creativity, sharing, stories, assemblies and most of all fostering friendship.  Please see a sample of all of the activities we got up to here: https://youtube.com/shorts/8Q1KDr563VM?si=03Mp6KdxeP-LfJZ9

Ciara’s class produced a lovely book about Friendship. Please see attached.

Irish Lessons for Parents & Guardians

Irish lessons are starting up again on Wednesday, 16th October, running for 8 weeks (with a break during the October midterm).

The plan is to offer:

  • Beginner Class
  • Improvers Class
  • Potential Third Class for those with some school Irish that has fallen out of practice (depending on interest)

Please take part in Jennifer’s poll to let us know what time suits best. This will help us finalise class numbers and scheduling.

 Cost: Likely €5–6 per class.

If you have any questions, feel free to get in touch with patrick@d7educatetogether.com

We’d love to see as many as possible join in — it’s a great chance to refresh your Irish and learn together!

GAA Update                                     Bravery in Ballymun

Our 5th Class Go Games team were in action again this week with an away fixture against Virgin Mary NS Ballymun. On a beautiful afternoon for football, D7 found a nice rhythm in the first half and despite conceding the first point they rallied back with two well-constructed goals and ended the half with a narrow lead.

The second half was a hard-fought battle with chances at both ends. Virgin Mary had one well taken goal followed by a scrappy deflected effort that trickled over the line. D7 rallied back and peppered the opponent’s goal with very little reward. One series of plays saw three efforts pushed behind for 45’s.

As the clock wound down, we struck the crossbar and upright with plenty more near misses. In the end it wasn’t our day but not for want of trying. There were heroes all over the pitch as the boys and girls put their bodies on the line. We’ll be back in action again next week when we travel to Ballygall to face Mother of Divine Grace next Tuesday, D7 abú.

Our Senior Girl’s followed up their good run on Weds when they were victorious in Ongar v Scoil Grainne. In a tightly fought battle, the Girls prevailed thanks to their excellent point taking.  They await to find out their quarter final opponents with the matches scheduled for the week of Oct 6th

The Senior Boys had a free week with a last group match at home next Tuesday at 14.30 in TUD when they face Scoil An Seachtar Laoch from Ballymun, to see who tops the group before the knockout phase of the competition. All supporters welcome.

The future is looking bright for the D7 teams.

Poc Fada

Inspired by the Poc Fada competition that takes place in the Cooley Mountains of Louth every summer, Enda’s 6th class took to the green pastures of Grangegorman to set up and complete their own Poc Fada course. Unlike the Cooley Mountains there weren’t any ravines to navigate but the pupils did take care to avoid other hazards such as TUD students and a few dogs out for their afternoon walk. Terrific scores of “around 9” and “12, I think” followed.

Friendship walk

All 3 Second classes went together on a friendship walk in the beautiful sunshine this week.

We made leaf creatures from any natural materials we could find in the environment in Grangegorman. Luckily there were lots of different coloured leaves and conkers to choose from. We threaded them onto wooden skewers and then drew faces on them to make them even more individual.

What a lovely day the children in our ALC had.

Message from Annamoe Parade Clean Up Group

Annamoe Parade is a thoroughfare for many families in the school community, going to and from school. For the past 2 years there have been major community efforts to meet monthly for litter picking and 5 murals have been erected on the laneway walls which capture the past and brighten the area.

Next Saturday, Saturday the 27th of September, there will be a free outdoor family concert from 2 – 3.30pm to celebrate the space. All welcome.
