Cumann Na mBunscol athletes in Santry on Thursday
Good afternoon parents and guardians,
I hope your children enjoyed their day off school. We had a very informative session today on our whole school approach to supporting our children with autism. We look forward to our Primary Maths Curriculum Day on Monday.
On Tuesday we had a meeting with all our parents and guardians of incoming Junior Infants in the Sports Hall. Thanks to our PGSA who served tea and coffee at this meeting. Thanks Donna and Arlene for attending the meeting.
Heartiest congratulations to Kim, our SNA, on the birth of her baby Hannah.
Best wishes to Deirdre who starts her maternity leave today. Welcome Emily, who will teach Senior Infants now. If anyone needs to communicate with Emily, please mail secretary@d7educatetogether.com and we can forward all communications to Emily until she gets her school email address.
Santry 2024
Thursday saw our annual pilgrimage to Santry for the Cumann na mBunscol Athletics event. The races were open to U12 and U14 children and this year we were represented by children from 4th & 6th classes as the 5th class children were on their school tour.
With the opening ceremony out of the way, we got onto the business in hand with the 80m sprints. With a very high standard our competitors put in a great performance but unfortunately, we were unsuccessful in our efforts.
Next up was the 600m where Juliette took an early lead in the first lap before being overtaken just before the bell. However, in a tactical masterclass, she timed her final kick to perfection and powered home to claim the gold medal for D7.
In the relay events our U12 teams faced a mammoth task as they were up against much bigger opponents however, they both acquitted themselves very well and will have learned from the experience. Both U14 relay teams won their heats to make it to the final where the girls were just pipped into the silver medal spot and the boys left themselves with too much work in the last leg as they finished up outside the medals.
Thanks to all our supporters on the day and we look forward with hope to our next batch of athletes flying the D7 flag next year.

The boys football team were victorious in their league semi-final clash with Belmayne ETNS. It was a hard-fought match against a very strong side. The goals were tit for tat throughout. Iarlaith and Sonaí put goals away for D7 to make it 2 all before Liam Condon clinically dispatched the winning goal with only a few minutes of normal time remaining. Despite the ups and downs throughout the match the team never gave up. A special mention to Manus for his goalkeeping heroics which included a penalty save. Well done to the entire squad of players for getting us to the League final.
The opponent and date for the final is to be confirmed.

Congratulations Noah who competed in the National Karate Championships on Sunday ad came 3rd in his age group. Cillian competed also.
Message from Central Library, Ilac Centre
My name is Eimear and I am the children’s librarian here in the Central Library, Ilac Centre, Dublin 1.
I am emailing you to share some information on our summer reading programme for children, Summer Stars. Summer Stars is a free national reading programme for children that takes place in all public libraries in Ireland and online each summer.
Each child that takes part is encouraged to read 8 books over the summer months. There are incentives along the way to completing the card. At the end of the summer each child is invited to attend an award ceremony in Central Library to collect a certificate of completion and a medal. There will also be a raffle at the end of the summer for some prizes and Smyths Toys vouchers. The more books the children read, the more cards they complete, the better chance they have at winning prizes at the end of the summer.
Children need to be motivated and supported to pick up a book and dive into the story that is waiting to unfold therefore, we would be grateful if you could encourage the pupils in your school to take part.
Your pupils and teachers are also more than welcome to visit us here in the Central Library before the school year ends! We offer a library tour and storytime session/ scavenger hunt upon request.
