D7ETNS Camogie and hurling team

Good afternoon parents and guardians,

I hope you have had a nice week.

Glad to report another good week here in school.

Naturally, we are starting to plan the 2025-26 school year. I have told the children that we will not be merging or changing any classes next year. So, we will have 3 x 2nd class and 2 x 5th class. (This year we have 2 x 2nd class and 3 x 5th class)

As you know next week is the last week of term.  School will close at 12pm for all children. Little Learners will operate as normal, finishing at 6pm.

Also, there are no Afterschool Activities next week (w/c 7th April) with the exception of KARATE which will go ahead.

Afterschool Activities for Term 3 will start up again w/c May 5th, therefore no afterschool activities during the first week back after the holidays.

D7ETNS Camogie Team Shows Great Spirit in First Match of the Year

This past Wednesday, the D7ETNS camogie team took to the pitch for their first match of the season against a strong Gaelscoil Inchicore side. While the final score may not have gone in their favour, the girls put in a determined and spirited performance throughout the game.

From the very first whistle, the team showed great energy and enthusiasm, challenging their opponents at every turn. The defense worked tirelessly to keep Gaelscoil Inchicore’s attack at bay, making crucial tackles and clearances. Meanwhile, the midfield and forwards created some fantastic chances and displayed excellent teamwork.

Despite facing a well-drilled and experienced opposition, D7ETNS never backed down and kept pushing right until the final whistle. Their commitment and effort were evident, and they can take great pride in how they played. For many of the players, this was their first competitive match of the year, making their performance even more impressive.

Though the result didn’t go their way, the team gained valuable experience and are eager to build on this performance for their next match. Most importantly, the girls enjoyed the game and showed great sportsmanship throughout.

Well done to all involved—this is just the beginning of what promises to be an exciting season ahead for D7ETNS camogie!

Hurling

The Boys also travelled to Islandbridge on Wednesday for a challenge match v Gaelscoil Inchicore. Facing into a stiff breeze, the lads worked their way into the game with a few well taken scores. Our opponents struck back with a fortuitous goal that dipped under the crossbar, giving them a foothold in the game.

The second half saw D7 take control of the game with scores coming from all over the park. Our defence and goalkeeper dealt superbly with the rare attacks and managed to lay the platform for our attack. With all twenty players getting a run out it was a great opportunity to prepare for our upcoming league matches. The first match for the Boys will be v Grace Park ET next Thursday.

1st class drama

Michelle’s 1st class had the privilege of having Eva Hein West teach an incredibly professional energetic drama lesson on Wednesday. Eva’s enthusiasm was infectious as she used a variety of improvisational techniques.

The children developed their creative expressive skills, sharpened their memories and were able to use their problem-solving skills effectively. Eva’s lesson was perfectly pitched and paced, and the children loved every second. Thank you, Eva.  Michelle

Famine Walk

Picture
Both 4th Classes embarked on an epic walk today to follow the Famine Walk along the Royal Canal. The actual walk starts at Strokestown house and follows the route the families walked on their journey to the Liffey as a result of their eviction from their homes during the Great Famine.

Today, we joined the route at Ashtown Lock and followed the route along the towpath to Phibsboro. Thankfully our journey was less onerous, and we did manage to grab a snack at the playground on route. The route was bookmarked by the bronze shoe statues seen above that are dotted along the trail.

The weather was kind with only a short shower that didn’t dampen the spirits. We were fortunate to chance upon a solitary heron waiting for a tasty morsel to swim nearby. The children covered about 6.5k on the walk and managed to get back to D7 in time for lunch, a luxury the children in 1845 might not have enjoyed.

Sound Scavenger Hunt in Grangegorman on Wednesday

Niamh and Enda’s 6th Classes Host Lunchtime Café as Gaeilge!

On Tuesday, Niamh and Enda’s 6th Classes transformed the classroom into a vibrant lunchtime café—completely as Gaeilge! This special event gave students the opportunity to practice their conversational Irish in a relaxed and enjoyable setting. With a delightful selection of snacks (including brioscaí agus sú oráiste) the students embraced the challenge of chatting in Irish while enjoying their treats, making the experience both fun and educational. It was fantastic to see everyone engaging in Gaeilge outside of the classroom and supporting each other in their conversations. Well done to all the students for their enthusiasm and participation—go hiontach ar fad!
