5th class on the Sugarloaf on Thursday
Good afternoon everyone,
I hope you had a nice week.
I spent the last two days at the Educate Together Principals’ conference in Galway. As usual we had lots of time for interaction, networking, workshopping, and learning from each other. It was great to be surrounded by wonderful, supportive Educate Together colleagues.
Our PGSA have asked us to remind those who have won raffle prizes in last week’s Table Quiz, please collect them in the office.
Also, gentle reminder we still have some outstanding payments due on Aladdin. Please check your Aladdin app to make sure you are up to date with all payments. Payments due relate to trip to Sugarloaf, Cross Country Bogeys, Cinema trip for Seachtain na Gaeilge, Irishtown soccer blitz.
Abilities Awareness Day
D7ET had a fantastic day celebrating ‘Abilities Awareness Day’ on Friday 21st March. Classes learned about Down Syndrome, Visual Impairment, Hearing Impairment, Physical Disabilities, Specific Learning Difficulties and Neurodiversity. As always, the quality of engagement around the topics has been extremely thoughtful and interesting.

Sugarloaf

On Thursday 27th March, 5th Class returned to county Wicklow and ascended almost 500metres above sea level to the summit of the Sugarloaf. Like a snarling horde of Tolkien’s Orcs, we marched up the Misty Mountain. In reality, ofcourse, there was neither mist nor mountain, it was a beautiful sunny day and we took advantage of the very best thing about the Garden County and that Great Hill-the view back towards our native Mordor. On the way back we stopped off at the seaside town of Bray for a short stroll along the beach.
Thanks Wesley

Picker Pals:

Róisín and Kathleen’s 1st class Continued with the Picker Pals Program this week. We learned all about plastics and how they can be harmful to the environment. They take a long time to break down (biodegrade) and not all can be recycled. We learned how only PET 1 & 2 plastics can be recycled. All other types of plastics need to be incinerated (burnt) so they do not end up in the environment or in our water, rivers, lakes and oceans.
We took it in turns everyday to go out in small groups with Barbara or Gemma to clean up the grounds of our school. On Tuesday Sadhbh counted 30 sweet wrappers on the Tree Yard!!!!
Soccer
The boys’ soccer team continued their winning streak with a comprehensive 2-7 victory over St. Joseph’s in Fairview on Wednesday. Crisp, precise passing up the pitch led to some truly outstanding goals, finished with finesse. Meanwhile, a solid defensive display and a composed performance from the goalkeeper ensured Dublin 7 remained in control throughout.
This last league game was a must-win to keep hopes of reaching the knock-out stages alive, and the team delivered in style. We now await the remaining results in the league with anticipation. Many thanks to the parents who provided transport to and from the game—your support is always appreciated!
