Michelle’s 1st class winter art

Good afternoon everyone,

It has been another busy week here at D7ET!

The children started the week buzzing with festive spirit after our fabulous Winter Bazaar held here last Sunday.  It was a beautiful day for the children.  Huge thanks to our PGSA for their unbeatable organising skills. There was a palpable sense of fun and mischief about the place with our students milling around clutching their D7 dollars!

Garda Bike Marking

A big thank you to the gardaí from the Bridewell Garda Station for marking so many of our bikes today. Thanks also to our Student Council for coordinating so ably, and to the children for waiting so patiently. While the gardaí couldn’t get to everyone today, they told us they’ll be back on Tuesday 16th December to finish the job.

Christmas Cinema Trip

On Thursday morning, both 3rd classes, Jennifer’s 4th class and the senior ALC went to the Lighthouse Cinema to watch The Grinch. It was a lovely start to the day and got all the children in the Christmas mood.

A Trip to the Mansion House

Paul’s 3rd class will be performing in the Mansion House this Sunday. They will sing a selection of Christmas songs and are very excited to perform for the Lord Mayor. Other acts at the event include The North Dublin Gospel Choir, the Lucan Gospel Choir and the Army Band. I’m sure the children will represent the school in the best possible way.  Break a leg everyone!

Boxing

Well done to the children chosen from 6th class on completing their 5 weeks of boxing training at St. Saviors Boxing Club.  This was a great initiative organised through Dublin City Council.  All the participants reported having a great time.  You should be proud of your achievements 6th class!

Henrietta Street 6th Class Trip

Enda’s 6th Class visited the Henrietta St. museum on Thursday to learn about the rich history of the street and the people that inhabited it. The tour guide Seán took them from the grand reception rooms where the first inhabitants entertained the upper classes of Dublin with the finest food, drink and music, right down to the cramped tenement rooms where dozens of families later lived in poverty. In particular, the pupils were fascinated with the stories of the children who grew up there and, in spite of all the hardships they faced, had happy childhoods playing together in the street. A trip to remember.

2nd Class Bird Feeders

Second class have been learning all about how to take care of wildlife during winter as part of our Learn Together curriculum. Grainne & Marie’s class took the bird feeders they made to the Forest in Grangegorman to keep the birds fed during this cold weather. Find any of us if you’d like to know our bird feeder recipe!

Dates for the Diary:

Monday 8 December: school closure to facilitate child protection training for all staff

Thursday 18 December: Winter Solstice Walk

Friday 19 December: Last day of term. School will finish at 12pm. Infants will finish at 11:50am.

As you can see, we’ve been very busy!
