Looking forward to a great day.
Good afternoon parents and guardians,
I hope you have had a nice week!
Thanks to Padraig and Peadar, we enjoyed a fantastic range of activities for STEM Week. Peadar’s research quiz, It Can’t Be True, was fascinating, as the children worked at speed to research facts in our science library.
For the engineering projects, our 6th class focused on caissons, suspension bridges, turbines, ramps, and steel cages. They actively researched these topics and showcased their work to all classes, as well as to parents and guardians, this morning.
Our infants made cup phones, and students from 2nd to 6th class designed balloon cars. We held class heats, which culminated in a final today, cheered on enthusiastically by all our infants and 1st class children.
During the week, we also explored Scratch programming, Active Maths, and an intriguing maths trail that led our children to parts of our school they had never seen before.
As a reminder, Parent-Teacher meetings will take place during the week commencing November 24th. I will release the booking slots next week.

STEM Week 2025
The emphasis this year was on being physically active while participating in Maths, Science and Engineering tasks. For instance, pupils had to puff their lungs out to compete in the Balloon Car Chase. The 6th Class Active Committee braved wet conditions to conduct time trials and beanbag distance throwing, the emphasis here being on measurement. 2nd Class visited 5th to be mentored on Scratch programming, while infant classes used cup phones to learn about sound from 4th Class instructors.
STEM Projects 6th Class
Our 6th class pupils truly outdid themselves with an incredibly impressive STEM project showcase. This gave the pupils a great opportunity to put their creativity, engineering and presentation skills on show for the entire school and families to appreciate. From the Brooklyn Bridge to Fastnet Lighthouse, from the Taj Mahal to Newgrange there was so much to see and take in. In particular, it was brilliant to see the pupils articulate complex ideas with such pride and confidence. There are future engineers amongst them.
Massive congratulations to all of 6th Class. They have certainly set a high bar for future projects.
