Great excitement this week as our little chicks hatched.

Good afternoon parents and guardians,

I hope you have had a nice week.

We have had a very exciting week with our new arrivals in reception. I told the children that Nicola, Celine and I were very distracted by the chirping in reception today and yesterday. Glad to report our chicks like their new environment and the children love visiting them. They have been named Charlie, Georgina, Me Chubbs, Chuckles, Pebbles and Chiqua already by our 5th class children.  They will remain with us for another week before going back to Nore Valley Farm.

The photographer was in today. The children got individual, sibling and class photos taken.

Thanks to Emer for organising our meeting for parents of children with additional needs.

One parent spoke about a good talk and PowerPoint ‘Managing Stress and Burnout in Families’ with John Sharry that took place on 11th September.  This link to this is still live. See below.

Nuair a bheidh muid fásta suas

This week Niamh’s 6th Class were learning about what they would like to be ‘…nuair a bheidh siad fásta suas’. They had such an interesting and diverse range of occupations and had fun describing them to their partners as Gaeilge. We can’t wait to see some of you as famous footballers, marine biologists and designers in the future!

D7 advance to the Semi Final

On a beautiful afternoon for football, D7 found themselves in the wilds of Tallaght to face Scoil Solas Chríost at St Mark’s GAA pitches. Playing against the breeze in the first half, we conceded an early point from a free. D7 were winning a lot of possessions, however they weren’t having a lot of success on the scoreboard. Persevering, the D7 boys gained a foothold with a few well-worked points before eventually pouncing for the first goal of the game.

Heading into the halftime break, we held a slender lead but with plenty of work to do. The break proved beneficial as the boys tore into the opposition and began to dominate proceedings. Solas Chríost were finding it impossible to break through our ironclad defence and our forwards found their groove. As the clock wound down, we emptied the bench and our 5th Class representatives began to shine.

A very solid team performance gave us a comprehensive victory in the end. Next up will be a semifinal clash with Grace Park ETNS. We’re expecting a titanic battle with a trip to Croke Park the prize on offer for the victors. Venue and time to be confirmed for the match next week  but lifts will be required. Ar aghaidh linn.

5th class visit to Dubray books

All three Fifth Classes attended a talk by children’s author Sheena Wilkinson in Dubray Books yesterday, where the writer detailed her lifelong fascination with girls’ boarding schools. “First Term at Fernside” is a mystery novel set at a girls school in Belfast in 1925. Sheena read selected passages from the novel for D7ET visitors and discussed her own connections with the story.

Thanks to Dubray books for organising.

Carol Ds Senior Infants Autumn World

We used recycled materials (cardboard, newspaper, old wool) and natural found objects (leaves, twigs, branches) to create an autumn world.

Have a lovely weekend everyone,
