Basketball Slam-dunk!

Dublin 7 Educate Together basketball team made history on Wednesday the 28th of May in winning the Dublin Mini Basketball Mixed Tournament. This was the team’s first time competing in the event which took place in the Oblate Hall in Inchicore. The tournament featured 6 teams in total from all over Dublin.

The team played three hard fought matches and came out on top in all three.
Having won pool B, the team took on Booterstown NS in a battle for the trophy. Players threw everything they had at this final push for a spot in the school’s trophy cabinet. The pressure was on as the format changed from 4 v 4 half-court matches to 5 v 5 full court for the final. We put the first two scores on the board before Booterstown replied with a nicely shot basket. We replied quickly at the other end of the court with another score which prompteed Booterstown to push on and get another score on the board. Things were tense and all eyes were on the clock as our defense showed some great rebounding skills and kept Booterstown from closing in on us, a final score increased the gap to a more comfortable 8-4. The final buzzer sounded to our delight and we were presented with a beautiful trophy which will ensure the 6th Class’s basketball legacy lives on in the school trophy cabinet following their departure!

Congratulations to all the team who took part on the day, both playing and officiating. There will be no training until the week of the 16th of June when we hope to conclude our year with a local mixed tournament.
