Dublin 7 Educate Together Boys’ Basketball Team have added to the school’s trophy cabinet in winning the Dublin Mini Basketball Senior Boys B Tournament. The trophy is the school’s second Dublin Mini Basketball Tournament victory and our girls team have the opportunity to add to this collection next Thursday the 11th June.
The team had a tough league campaign coming up against more experienced sides who had a more operational understanding of defence rules than the Dublin 7 coaches! However a core group persisted with weekly training and kept both the team and teachers motivated and have to be commended for this.
It all came together for the boys in the NBA on Wednesday 3rd June with a tight group of 10 travelling to Tallaght. The team’s confidence grew when they put on their snazzy new basketball bibs which the school recently purchased. Spectators for the first match of the day, the new bibs and enthusiastic team got off to a great start with a win over St. Patrick’s Hollypark with a score of 18-12. Next up was St. Mary’s BNS Haddington Rd who had beaten D7 well in the league. A fantastic 2nd quarter spurred D7 onto another victoryof 14-12.
Having won pool A D7 faced St Olaf’s in the final. With both teams keen not to concede it was a low scoring match and D7 secured the lead in the final quarter and managed to hold St. Olaf’s off to take home the silverware. Congratulations to all the players involved.
