Basketball season kicks off!
Both the Boys’ and Girls’ Basketball teams had their first league game this week against Gaelscoil Uí Earcáin and both teams did D7 proud. The games were played in Aughrim Street Sports Centre and there was great home support present from parents, guardians and classmates.
The boys were up first and they maintained their strong start throughout the game, pulling away in the 5th period thanks to countless fantastic lay-ups. The experience on the team shone through, with the new recruits showing huge promise and potential. In the end they defeated the opposition by a massive 16 – 2.
The girls had an equally strong start, scoring their first basket within 30 seconds. Unfortunately they were just edged out by the more experienced Gaelscoil side, but with a little more training and practice, these girls should no doubt have a great season ahead. Final score: 12 – 5 to the Gaelscoil. Maith sibhse go léir!
