CRICKET CLUB INFO (Claire, 2nd)

As part of our efforts to obtain the active flag this year, the active flag committee contacted a number of sporting bodies looking for support in encouraging more activity within our school community. Cricket Ireland answered the call and this resulted in introductory coaching sessions for 2nd, 3rd and 4th classes on Friday 28th of February with Fintan McAllister from Cricket Leinster.

Pupils got the opportunity to play a sport many of them wouldn’t have experienced before. Fintan explained the four basic positions in cricket; wicket keeper, batsman, bowler and fielder. Pupils then played a basic game involving 5 players. In this game there were only 3 ways a batsman could be knocked out as opposed to the more extensive rules used in a normal cricket match!

Both pupils and teachers enjoyed these sessions immensely. Many thanks to Cricket Ireland, Cricket Leinster and Fintan McAllister for facilitating this.

For any pupils interested in further developing their cricket skills, our local club would be the Phoenix Park Cricket Club and their contact details are as follows: Matt Lunson (Head Coach) – 087 9753543, Alan Maginnis (Youth Chairperson) – 087 6774731,
