6th Class Science Project
This year, Peadar’s 6th each gave a science demonstration on a topic relating to the curriculum. Among the highlights were:
Dylan showed the power of Co2 to lift a balloon, given off in a reaction. Ciara and Eanna made a lava lamp by mixing oil and water (however they did that). Eilis did work on correct temperatures for chocolate-making, but refused to share her pieces. Patrick demonstrated how the voicebox works with straws. Frank made a model of the lungs. Ahmed demonstrated some chemical reactions with Mentos. Aisling showed how soap bubbles are created in the air, and how air pressure affects them. Sean H made a workable water-wheel. Anna and Sean B showed the effects of static electricity. Aoife M and Lola made some sugar crystals that will remain in the classroom long after they have gone (thanks for that girls!). Aoifes Joy and Byrne lectured on the PH scale, with a lovely diagram. Oscar showed how salt breaks down ice. Adam showed water absorption in plants. We learned from Grainne and Eppie that smoking can actually harm your lungs, though they were reluctant to demonstrate this, so we’ll never know for sure. I can’t remember what Louis did, but we will never forget the smell.
Here are some pics of them in action.
